How to Travel Sustainably
One of the main themes in my book, Traveling in Wonder, is talking about how to be sustainable while traveling.
I held a lot of guilt from my times of flying as a flight attendant due to the amount of flights I was taking on a daily basis.
But over the years, I’ve tried hard to work on being sustainable when I am traveling and wanted to share them with you!
Step One: One of the best ways to be sustainable while traveling is from what you eat! I became a vegetarian seven years ago as meats are known to be some of the highest emission dishes you can eat!
Step Two: Try to bring non-plastics with you while you travel. I’ve switched from carrying a plastic carrier for my soap to wash my items and instead use soap sheets.
Step Three: Instead of using a washer and dryer while traveling, hand-wash your items in the sink and hang to dry! This also helps immensely when you’re on the go and need a quick fix from re-wearing the same outfits.
Step Four: Use public transportation, if possible, or walk where you need to go!
Step Five: Purchase carbon offsets for your flight. Some airlines, such as Southwest, have a Carbon Offset Program where you are able to help reduce their carbon emissions by purchasing them. For Example: Every dollar you contribute, Southwest will double it!
Next time you travel, think about ways you can help our environment… It’s fun to get creative!
PROTIP: Bring a scarf on your next trip!
When traveling from place to place, expecially traveling light, being able to have an item that can be used in multiple ways is so helpful. A scarf can be a makeshift towel, carrying sack, eye mask, sun protection, and more.
