Cliffs of Moher

Did you know that the cliffs consist mainly of Namurian shale and sandstone and were formed about 320 million years ago. There is an estimated 30,000 birds living on the cliffs with more than 20 species represented (the most famous being Atlantic puffins!).

The cliffs receive more than one million visitors a year and are one of Ireland’s most popular attractions. The cliffs received their name from the old Irish word “Mothar”, meaning ruined fort!

O’Brien’s Tower

O’Brien’s Tower is at one of the highest points at the Cliffs of Moher. It was built in 1835 by Sir Cornellius O’Brien as an observation tower for tourists who visited the cliffs.

PROTIP: Clean your hands after security! One of the tricks I use while traveling is to make sure I bring hand sanitizer and stop at the bathroom after running through security.  A recent report claimed that security bins are likely to carry viruses such as rhinovirus or adenovirus, and the trays are reported to carry even more germs than airport toilets!
